Best Monday Night Football bets: Falcons-Eagles
Recapping Sunday's Week 2 NFL games and best bets for Falcons-Eagles
It was not a good Sunday for the NFL betting public, punctuated by the Chicago Bears (+6.5) somehow covering in a 19-13 loss to the Houston Texans in a game they had no business covering. At least everyone who bet big on the Texans to win or had them in a teaser won, but many people likely chased losses during the day into Sunday night.
Those losses were likely incurred by several favorites — Cowboys -6.5 (vs. Saints), Ravens -8 (vs. Raiders), Lions -7.5 (vs. Bucs) — losing outright, which crushed a bunch of teasers and moneyline parlays. There’s a reason they call them teasers, folks. The only bad game for the books early on was the Los Angeles Chargers (-5.5) crushing the hapless Carolina Panthers 26-3, as over 80% of bets and total dollars wagered at every sportsbook I spoke with on Sunday was on Los Angeles to cover.
As Thomas Gable, sportsbook director at The Borgata in New Jersey, texted me, “Exceptionally strong day. That early slate was a bloodbath for the customers. The hold percentage was insanely high. Even the late games were good, Cardinals-Rams especially.”
Out in Las Vegas, the story was similar. John Murray, executive director at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook texted after Sunday Night Football, “It was very good. The morning was outstanding, as I’m sure it was for most books. The afternoon games didn’t go our way and we lost on the night game, but the morning was so great it allowed us to overcome everything that happened the rest of the day.”
Several other books I spoke with had good Sundays as well. Yes, I know, the betting public never likes to hear when the books have a good week — but there will be better days for the bettors.
Tonight, the Atlanta Falcons travel to take on the Philadelphia Eagles as 5.5-point underdogs, with a total of 46. This line opened Eagles -6.5 and has dipped down to -5.5, mostly on the news that star wide receiver A.J. Brown will miss the game with a hamstring injury.
The public is all over the Eagles to cover at multiple sportsbooks (84% of bets at DraftKings, 87% of the money), but there are a few respected wagers on the Falcons to cover.
Hopefully, you enjoyed the wealth of picks and information from Sunday’s post and made some money on a very difficult Week 2 NFL Sunday. As usual, I’ve compiled public betting info and bunch of expert picks below the pay wall for tonight’s game, along with a few props. I’ll add to the file as we approach kickoff.
Have a great Monday!
