With less than a month until the opening NFL game this season between the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, hopefully you’ve been doing some research and making some futures wagers if anything stands out. I looked at 20 NFC futures wagers to make from handicappers last week, and today I’ll focus on the AFC.

One AFC team that has stood out among my conversations with oddsmakers this offseason is the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers’ win total sits at 8.5 and is the most-bet over at several sportsbooks. Many books have taken a lot of money on Pittsburgh to make the postseason and even win the Super Bowl.

One oddsmaker told me, “People won’t stop betting the Steelers with us. We lose more on the Steelers than anyone else.”

The AFC is also intriguing because the top four most valuable QBs according to the point spread reside in the conference, so there is a lot of potential for big line moves throughout the season if any starter goes down. It also means you should pause before betting any AFC futures because it’s an absolute gauntlet to run through, with QBs like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, C.J. Stroud, Tua Tagovailoa and others (see: Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence) likely to be in the postseason mix.
